This post is an industry guide on the important steps to make sure your Google ad campaigns continue running smoothly.

Beginning June 2, 2015, Google requires verified ownership of phone numbers included with ads.

What does that mean, exactly?

It means that if you do not follow the steps included below, Google may suspend your business’ advertising and even suspend your account. That’s bad.

What’s good is that the steps needed to make sure you’re in compliance are quick and painless. We even have the links to help you along the way. It’s a relatively easy process, but one you must do to ensure your advertising accounts are in compliance with Google. A suspended account means lost revenue for your business, and nobody wants that.

What do I do?

Glad you asked. You must use one of the following verification methods before June 2, 2015 to make sure your account is whitelisted:

  • Link your Google Search Console (Formerly Webmaster Tools) and AdWords accounts—follow Google’s procedure, Linking your Google Search Console account to your AdWords account, in AdWords Help.
  • Set up conversion tracking on the same domain as your ad’s display URL—you will add a unique AdWords conversion tracking code snippet to the landing pages featured in your ads. Follow Google’s procedure, Setting up conversion tracking, in AdWords Help.
  • Request whitelisting with your Google Partner Manager—contact your Google Partner Manager to begin this process.

By requesting this whitelisting, you certify that:

  • You (as an agency or client) follow a systematic business verification process by which you can guarantee either:
    • The phone number used in Call Extensions, Location extensions, Call Only Ads or any other future call product is owned by the same business that owns the display verification  domains; or
    • The advertiser owns the domain in the Display URL/verification URL of ads showing a
      call action/phone number.
  • You understand that if the policy is violated, the whitelisting of all AdWords accounts you manage could be revoked.

Easy, right? If your call campaign is directly managed by Marchex, your phone numbers are already whitelisted.

That’s all there is to it. Remember, the deadline is June 2, 2015. Get verifying now!
